  • I ended every sentence with a period, question mark or exclamation mark.
  • I began every sentence and every proper noun with a capital letter.
  • I checked my spelling.
  • My paragraph’s topic fits the assignment and the audience.
  • The topic sentence clearly states or implies the topic and main idea.
  • No important facts, examples, details, etc. are missing from my paragraph. (The development is complete and comprehensive.)
  • Every supporting sentence is clearly related to the main idea.
  • I use a variety of conjunctions, transitions and linking devices to connect the supporting sentences so that they flow smoothly from beginning to end.
  • I start a new paragraph with every new idea, person, place or time.
